A Southern Love Story is a personal project I created for a potential zine focused on the exploration of a young Black couple in North Carolina.

The Challenge:
Create an illustrative and eye-catching cover for a short, romantic memoir zine with a simplistic design representative of the couple.
The Process:
Inspired by this image of the couple, the design is inspired by the moment depicted- a double date at a favorite pizza restaurant with their favorite NC-based sodas.

Additional inspiration from a Drawing I assignment also informed this design. The reductive style drawing based on shape rather than line that I learned from this project was applied to the images of the glass soda bottles. A focus on shadow, color, and implied line allows the details from the famous soda bottles to shine through.
The Outcome:
A simplistic, symbolic book cover design representative of both North Carolina heritage and the identity of the couple.
